Like Phaidon’s Le Corbusier Le Grand or Taschen’s Case Study Houses, one of our favorite literary design indulgences is the recently released The Story of Eames Furniture by Marilyn Neuhart with John Neuhart. Though a hefty 800 pages, it cleverly, and rather technically, tells the story of the Eameses and how their furniture became some of the most famous modern chairs in the world. It also delves into the life of 22 collaborators, colleagues and employees, including an 11-page spread on Don Albinson – a former Eames employee responsible for many of the good things that came out of the Eames office AS WELL AS the individual who designed the Stylex Bounce chair! Keep an eye out for an array of Bounce chairs on page 151. Available from Gestalten for $125.
